SB Attorneys Presented Seminars on Recent Developments in Construction Defect Law at the Annual West Coast Casualty Seminar

Four Selman Breitman partners spoke at the 14th Annual Construction Defect Seminar hosted by West Coast Casualty Service, Inc., on May 3 and May 4, 2007, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, speaking to an audience in excess of 1,000 attendees.

In Keeping Up with CD Coverage: This Year's Key Concepts You Have To Know, Neil Selman, Sheryl Leichenger and Linda Wendell Hsu addressed key liability insurance coverage principles and recent California insurance cases regarding construction defect claims.  Some of the issues and recent developments they discussed included how to prioritize liability policies, how to handle multiple deductibles and self-insured retentions and the elements a participating insurer must prove to prevail on claims against a non-participating insurer, including claims for an equitable contribution.

In addition, Elaine K. Fresch, Managing Partner of SB's Construction Defect department, presented Residential Construction from the Inside Out: A Computer-Generated Exploration of Construction for the Insurance Professional alongside Don MacGregor, John Springman and Paul Viau of Bert Howe & Associates.  The presentation utilized advanced computer graphics to illustrate how to build residential housing and how construction techniques may affect insurance coverage.  The presentation explained potential construction defects and how the work of particular trades may create issues.
